Reading BINGO: A Different Way to Get Your Students to Read - Download for Free

Reading for at least 30 minutes (or more) every day has been proven to enhance reading and comprehension skills within our students. This is why I have always urged my students to read at home for at least a little bit every day. However, ome students may need a little extra motivation to read. Reading BINGO turns reading into more of a fun activity, especially for those students who may not consider themselves to be “readers”, and is a much more fun alternative to the average reading log.

If you’re looking for a way to get your students to read at home (or just in general), stop stressing and download this Reading BINGO freebie!

Also available is a paid version, where there are more options to choose from AND it’s editable!

This free version is one page long and features a 5x5 board with a free space in the middle. It comes with pre-typed directions at the top, as well as 24 things to do to get a BINGO.

Ways to Play:

  1. The traditional 5-in-a-row. Assign this to your students weekly, where each week they must get 5-in a row. So, they can fill one out each day of the school week.

  2. Blackout! If you don’t want to keep printing over and over again, give this to your students to complete at home by playing blackout. This way, you can play (almost) all month long without printing so much.

  3. Assign for homework, but also let your students have the opportunity to complete during independent reading, as they can do some of these at school. In the editable version, you can type your own directions and your own boxes, so you could always turn this into a purely independent reading activity.

  4. Turn it into a challenge - whoever gets blackout first gets a prize. Tell students they can even fill out the page on the weekends!
