Transform Your Classroom into a Carnival to Prepare for Testing - Skill Review & Test Prep

It can sometimes be a good thing to shake things up in the classroom and do things different ways. Rather than boring old test prep that will make your students snore, you should opt to do something a little more immersive and go to the carnival! Not literally, though - but with this test prep station and decoration kit.

I created this classroom transformation resource because I have a lot of fond memories of going to the carnival with my family, riding the rides, and wasting all my tokens on those rigged game booths

What’s so special about this, anyways?

There are several reasons why this resource will be an amazing addition to your classroom, whether you’re looking something for testing seasons or just to review a few strategies with your students.

🎡It is editable and can be used for any genre.

Don’t like the questions I added to a certain page? No problem! You can change it up to whatever you would like. Even better is the fact that it is suitable for any passage and any genre, meaning that you can use it over and over again, even if you switch grade levels.

🎡There are 60+ pages of decoration.

I love adding little posters and other decorations around my room when doing transformations, and this resource was recently updated to include LOTS of pages of decoration, from balloons to posters to clip art. JPEG files are included so your machine can do all the cutting FOR you! Woohoo!

🎡Your students will be totally engaged in all 6 of the stations.

Different skills have different stations to play games at, so your students are going to love allll the learning that goes on that day. There’s even an option to earn points for prizes just like carnivals have, if you’re up for it!

🎡It will help prepare your students for their upcoming tests and boost their confidence.

As your students will be super engaged, they will have a greater chance of retaining information (whole body learning, anyone?). Confidence is key to doing well in things, so help make sure your students are confident in their test-taking abilities.

🎡It can give your students something to work toward.

If you plan it out, you could always have them earn a carnival day after doing whatever test review you have planned. For example, this year (as I’m writing this), our grade level team has a 10-day review before our state test and I’m planning on doing a classroom transformation the day before their test. One big day of fun before a potential stressful day!

How should I get started?

Well, after downloading this resource, there are a few final things you need to do to prepare.

  1. Find a passage and update any questions you would like to within the resource.

  2. Print out the desired pages and laminate if possible.

  3. If you have a cutting machine, use the JPEG file to cut the updated decorations; otherwise, grab some scissors or a paper cutter and have at it!

  4. Decorate your room! You can go above and beyond by buying balloons, streamers, table cloths, and adding a snack/drink station or some prizes. Perhaps add a disco ball and play fun music in the background. The possibilities are endless!

  5. Have FUN!!! You and your students are going to have such a great time.

Praise for Carnival Test Prep
